Interim Pastor |
Pastor
Henry A. Distler, Jr. and Jane, his wife, live in Slatington and have
three grown daughters. They are each married and live in the area. They
have three grandchildren, with one more expected in July 2007. They
feel they have been truly blessed.
After
graduating from Slatington High School, Henry attended Kutztown State
College with the ambition of either becoming a teacher or a preacher.
He earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Elementary Education. As
an immediate teaching position became open, he started his career of
34 years of teaching. He returned to Kutztown to earn his Masters of
Education degree. After 20 years in the elementary, he went to Cedar
Crest College to earn Secondary Education Certification. He has coached
cross country at both the high school and college level for 16 years
and track and field for 20 years.
However,
no matter what he did in the education field, there was always a burning
desire to preach the Word of God. He began taking continuing education
courses at Moravian Theological Seminary in Bethlehem. Then he completed
another 2 years of intensive training by various ministers from Lehigh
Presbytery. After a 2-year deacon-type internship at United Presbyterian
Church of Slatington, he began substituting for pastors on vacation.
That was
the catalyst that moved his calling from one of primarily visiting the
elderly; to that of long term substitute; to that of a Commissioned Lay
Pastor for the First Presbyterian Church of Hokendauqua. In November 2006,
he was called and installed as their Interim Pastor. With the pastors
of the CHES Convenant as mentors/advisors, he can continue to 'tell the
old, old story of Jesus and His love'. Amen. |
