Session
October 16, 2008 meeting
The Session met on Tuesday, October 16, 2008 with eight members present, Lay Pastor, Henry Distler guest Speaker, The Rev. Dr. Keith Brown and Choir Director, Joanne Matthews. With a quorum present the meeting was called to order by Henry at 7:00 P.M. and he introduced Keith Brown as our speaker for the evening. Keith’s topic was “Find Balance in our Christian Life” based on scripture readings found in Matthew 24: 34-40.
Henry then introduced Joanne Matthews who requested funds to purchase a clavinova which is a piano with many added musical features. This will replace the organ.
CLERK'S
REPORT:
It’s election time again and our church will house the voting machines on November 4, 2008.
A request was received to perform a wedding in August 2009.
Tammy Seidick placed a picture of Henry Distler in the Morning Call along with a write up of appreciation for Pastor appreciation month.
The Girl Scout Troop had a sleep over on Friday, October 17th.
CORRESPONDENCE:
Received information for the Christmas Joy Offering
Prayer request from Lehigh Presbytery: Keith Schnell and daughter Dinine from Lehighton Presbyterian, Nancy Hampton on the death of her husband Rev. Ormond I. Jr., Thanks and praise for normal breathing of Savannah Kareha, Dianne Kareha, Ed Gehhres recovering from brain surgery and Edward A. Hensel from the Weatherly Presbyterian
Church.
Received a Thank you note from Rev. Dr. Charles Colson for his retirement gift.
PASTOR'S
REPORT:
Henry notified Session of the following concerns:
- Date, time, mileage from September 18 – October 16, 2008
- October 19th was the Elder Gathering at Emmaus Presbyterian Church
- Mission Project for the fall is a Harvest Home, Peace Making, and Christmas
Joy Offering.

Congratulations are in order for Henry’s completion of Phase II of the Presbyterian Interim Pastor Training requirement at Princeton Theological Seminary October 6 – 10.
MINUTES of September 18, 2008, were approved with two minor errors.
FINANCIAL REPORT for September 2008 were received and reviewed. Reports were filed for Audit.

REPORTS
Music & Worship -
Choir is planning a Basket Bingo for May 8, 2009.
Christian Ed -
Two people walked for Turning Point.
New Members Class -
Will begin in September or October. Contact Henry if you know of someone wishing to join our church family.
Presbyterian
Women -
B. Quigg was the only one from our church to attend the P.W. Fall Gathering at Westminster Village on October 18, 2008. The main speaker was Pam Bowman. It was a beautiful Fall Day and all who attended came away with a warm spiritual feeling, the joy of meeting new friends and a chance to inspect the addition and improvements to Westminster Village,
Deacons -
Are visiting our Shut Ins, on a regular basis. Love gifts were donated to Breast Cancer and Dream Come True.
The Deacons will decorate the sanctuary for Thanksgiving and the Christmas Holidays.
This year they are requesting that all the Christmas poinsettias be Red so they can simplify the hassle of trying to find the plants by parishioners names.
Turning Point -
Will be the recipient of the Peace Making Offering.
Nursery School -
A committee was appointed to meet with the director to address any complaints and/or issues that might arise.
COMMITTEE
REPORTS
Communication -
The new bulletin board has been purchased and will be placed in the hallway and can be seen when entering by the front door.
Personnel -
It was suggested that a custodian be hired to take care of minor repairs and maintenance.
Nominating -
Jack Wall and the committee are preparing a slate of new officers to be presented at the next session meeting.
Property
-
The outside of the building is in dire need of repairs and paint. Session voted to approve the contract from Sobrinski Painting for $16,500. The sensor light at the front of the church needs to be repaired.
Pastoral
Nominating Committee -
The committee continues to review tapes and on occasion meets with candidates face to face. Information from Louisville is very slow and very few in number.
Safety Committee -
The committee is assigned to draw up policies and procedures that will meet the needs of our children. No policy has been prepared to date but some procedures already began. Insurance coverage and Driver’s Licenses are being checked for those who are transporting children.
The next meeting – November 20, 2008 at 7:00 P.M. .
