Session Minute Hi-Lites
January, 17, 2008 meeting

On a cold, snowy night, the Session met on January 17, 2008 with eight members present, and Commissioned Lay Pastor, Henry Distler. The Meeting was called to order by Henry at 7:05 P.M. The devotions for the evening were taken from Romans 12.

CLERK'S REPORT:

Session elected Barbara R. Quigg to serve as the Commissioner to Lehigh
Presbytery and was also elected to serve a second term as Clerk of Session.

Letters were sent to First Presbyterian of Bethlehem and Grace United Methodist
confirming the transfers of Jane Periera and Edith Scheirer.

Letters were sent to Robert Nickels, Stated Clerk of Lehigh Presbytery requesting
permission to pay our Per Capita Assessment on a monthly basis and to confirm
the election of Barbara R. Quigg as the Commissioner to Lehigh Presbytery.

Girl Scout Troop requested to meet in our church Social Room on Wednesday
evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. Permission was granted.

The date for our Annual Congregational Meeting is February 17, 2008.

PASTOR'S REPORT:

Thanked Joyce Wheeler for her willingness to serve as an active Elder once again.

Also thanked Sue Butchinski, Barbara R. Quigg and Eileen Tremblay for their
willingness to serve As Elders for another term.

Distributed copies of his activity reports for December 20, 2007 to January 16,
2008 in which included:

Time, mileage, CHES pulpit exchange reflections, suggested upcoming
mission projects, and schedule of Worship Services...
Request for Baptism of Kylie McFetridge
Reviewed procedures for cancellation of worship services because of the
weather conditions.
Received an invitation from Lehigh Presbytery for our church to join the
Jeremiah Initiative in February 2008. Session agreed that our church is not
ready to start this type of program at this time.
Will meet with Personnel Committee to discuss compensation for the 35
worked overtime. The decision makers will be Henry Distler, Joanne
Matthews, Eileen Tremblay, Sue Butchinski and Tammy Seidick.
Session approved to receive the One Great Hour of Sharing, Christmas Joy
Offering and the Thank Offering during the year 2008
Announced an Officer’s Training Session scheduled for February 23, 2008
at Slatington from 9 to 12 noon.

CORRESPONDENCE:

Outgoing -
Two letters to Robert Nickels, Stated Clerk of Lehigh Presbytery.

Incoming -
Letter from Whitehall Lions Club offering a donation of $500 to the
memorial fund in memory of Jacob Derrico.
Letter from Lehigh Presbytery granting permission to pay Per Capita
payments on a monthly basis.

MINUTES of December 9, 20 and 23, 2007 were approved as received.

FINANCIAL REPORT was received and reviewed. Report was filed for Audit.
Budget for 2008 was reviewed with the assurance that the Per Capita Assessment
will be increased to reflect the assessment of $21 per member.
Annual Congregational Meeting is scheduled for February 17, 2007.to include all
year end reports.

MINISTRY REPORTS

Worship and Music -

Schedule of Services during Henry’s absence-
January 27 - Elder Richard Haberern
February 3 - Rev. John Stoner
February 6 Seminary Intern - Joan Spangler
February 10 - Rev. John Stoner
February 17 - Henry Distler returns

Christian Education -

The young children will sing on January 20 and February 17 along with a
Children’s Chat and the receiving of the Joyful Noise Offering.

Presbyterian Women -

The Ice Cream/Basket Social is scheduled for June 14, 2008. Start thinking about
supporting us with donations of baskets and sacrifices of time to help when and
wherever you can.

Deacons -

A great big Thanks for decorating and undecorating the church during the busy
holiday season.
The Shut-Ins really appreciated their continued visits.

Turning Point -

Donna thanks everyone who gave so generously the Christmas gifts to needy Families...

Please continue to collect those old cell phones and ink cartridges.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Communication -

Tammy Seidick updated the website.

Fellowship/Group Life -

The Epiphany Dinner. was attended by 20 people who enjoyed, good food,
fellowship and a very nice program.
Look for a game night coming up in the Spring.
Hopefully soon we will be having another breakfast.

Personnel -

A committee was formed to review the contract with the Nursery School to
include Jack Wall, Tammy Seidick, Joyce Wheeler and Eileen Tremblay.

Presonnel committee will meet to decide how to compensate Henry for the 35 hrs. he worked overtime.

Approved Henry’s request for vacation time January 21 thru February 11, 2008
which was changed to January 23, 2007 thru February 15, 2008.

Nominating -

Thanks to Paula Scherer and Sandy Moran for stepping forward with the
willingness to fill the two vacancies on the Board of Deacons....
The employee reviews were completed in 2007.

Property -

Sue announced that the person removing the snow from the parking lots will also
spread salt when needed.

Doug Sammak will meet with the roofer to try to solve the problem of a leak at
the front stairwell. Also, he will try to possibly get a permit to install a chair lift.

Gifts of the Heart -

Blanket Sunday offering will be received on February 17, 2008.

Pastoral Nominating Committee -

The committee has been receiving tapes and PIF forms on a regular basis and has begun to list the ones they choose to review as a possible match.

New Business

The Annual Congregational Meeting is scheduled for February 17, 2008. If your
report hasn’t been turned in do so as soon as possible.

The next meeting – February 21, 2008.
