Session
January 21, 2010 meeting

The Session met on Thursday, January 21, 2010 with nine members present, and Moderator, Rev. Joyce W. Smothers, in the social room of the church. A quorum was present.

Pastor Joyce opened the meeting by reading Luke 15: 4-7 on the necessity for evangelism. Each member was asked to tell about the person who influenced him or her to become active in the church.


CLERK’S REPORT:

I attended the organizational meeting for the Whitehall Food Bank on January 25, 2010. Pastor Joyce, Joyce Wheeler and Barbara R. Quigg attended the Lehigh Presbytery meeting at Pottsville on January 23, 2010.

On February 27th an inservice training day will held for church officers at First Presbyterian Church, Bethlehem.

Commissioners to Lehigh Presbytery are Barbara Quigg, Commissioner and Joyce Wheeler, Alternate.

The two people running for Moderator of General Assembly are Elder Cynthia Bollack and Rev. Jin S. Kim.


CORRESPONDENCE:

There will be a Young Adult Mission Trip to Romania in July.

Received information on how we can help with the Haiti disaster.


PASTOR’S REPORT:

Distributed a written report of her activities from December 18, 2009 - January 21, 2010 which included:

  • Preached and led worship services.
  • Attended a CHES Meeting.
  • Visited and served communion to shut-ins, hospital patients and those
    recovering at home.
  • Is presently teaching a Bible Study on Genesis.

A request was made to have financial statements placed in envelopes.

There will be a Special CHES meeting to address the Brainerd Center situation on
February 9th at our church, at 7:00 P.M. The public is invited.

The One Great Hour of Sharing Offering will be received on March 28th.

NOTE: Pastor Joyce is in the church from Tuesday thru Friday 9:00A.M. to 1:00P.M, for anyone who wishes to meet with her.


MINUTES of December 17, 2009 were approved with one correction. Congregational Minutes from November 22, 2009 were approved.


FINANCIAL REPORT Received Yr. to Date Balance Sheet, Financial Report, YTD Budget vs. Actual, Profit and Loss, Budget vs. Actual Reports for December. Reports were reviewed and filed for Audit.


MINISTRY REPORTS:

Worship and Music -

The choir will process and recess during morning worship.

Please fill out the attendance charts and Communion Cards so we can keep an accurate attendance record.

Barbara Haberern is the liaison from Session to the Worship Committee.

Christian Education -

Enrollment in Sunday School is less than in previous years.

Youth Ministry -

The trip to the movies is scheduled for January 24th. Youth will see “To Save A Life” with the Catasauqua Presbyterian Church Youth Group.

Soup will be sold Super Bowl Sunday as a fund raiser by the Sunday School.

Turning Point -

Keep saving those old cell phones and ink cartridges.

We received a not of thanks for donations they received from our church
family
.

Nursery School -

There is a heating problem and Property Committee is working on it.


COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Communication -

Anniversary Books have been reprinted and are for sale for $28.00 in the church office.

Olan Mills will be doing our pictorial directory. Appointments for pictures will be April 15 – 16, 2010 from 3 to 9:30 P.M. and April 17 from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M.

Fellowship and Group Life -

The Epiphany Dinner on January 10, 2010 was well-attended.

John Hrizuk was elected to chair this committee.

Personnel -

Job descriptions are being reviewed.

Nominating -

We need two people to volunteer to serve as Deacons for the Class of 2012 and one member from the congregation for the Nominating Committee.

Property -

A new Rico copy machine will be purchased from Edwards’ Business Machines.

Shipelu will be our new natural gas distributor but we will still be served by UGI.

Gifts of the Heart -

A letter regarding the Per Capita apportionment will be mailed.

Session thanked Tammy Seidick for composing this letter.

Blanket Sunday has been cancelled and replaced with a Haiti Disaster Offering.

No further business, the meeting was adjourned in prayer by Pastor Joyce at 8:55 P.M.
