February 22, 2007 meeting
The Session
met on February 22, 2007 with nine members present, our Moderator, The
Rev. Dr. Charles Colson, and Commissioned Interim Lay Pastor, Henry
Distler. The meeting was called to order by Commissioned Interim Lay
Pastor, Henry Distler at 7:10 P.M. with devotions taken from Joshua
and followed with prayer...
The business
meeting was called to order by Henry Distler and the regular order of
business began with the approval of the minutes and the financial reports.
Correspondence:
Outgoing:
- Letter
requesting a transfer for Donald, Michele and Chad Heiney from Grace
United Methodist Church, Catasauqua as per their request.
- Completed
and sent Certificate of Transfer for Clifford Adams to St. Paul's
UCC in Northampton.
Incoming:
- Letter
from Teaching Presbyter, Steve Schusetts regarding the distribution
of the Presbytery Newsletter
- Letter
from Melody Faisetty regarding performance reviews and compensation
of church employee(s).
- Flyer
alerting our members of our congregation not to call or receive telephone
calls for area codes of 809, 294 or 876 because it will be very costly
and AT&T will not accept the responsibility..
- Received
a listing of churches within Lehigh Presbytery that we are invited
to pray for each Sunday. (March 4 - Slatington & St. Clair, March
11 - Stroudsburg & Summit Hill; March 12 - Tamaqua & Washington;
March 25 - Weatherly & White Haven)
- Letter
from Lehigh Presbytery announcing a Care Team Trip for Hurricane Katrina
(Posted on the Bulletin Board)
- Flyer
from Lehigh Presbytery advertising the Youth Triennium from 7/17-22/2007
at Purdue University
- Information
for a seminar centered around grieving entitled "Spirituality" led
by the Rev. Anne Huey.
The pastor's
Office now has computer equipment and a computer table. Joanne Matthews
was elected to serve as Assistant Treasurer and John Faisetty was elected
as the 2nd. auditor.
Barbara
Quigg reported on Winterfest 2007 and urged session members to make
an effort to attend next year in order that our church might reap the
benefits of all the information we can learn, to hear God's voice and
to act on it from leading meetings, decision making, prayer, Bible Study
and yes even stewardship techniques.
March
4th will be a Sunday dedicated to "Celebrate the Gifts of Women"
March
11th The Blue Grass Band will be with us.
Wow! The
Youth Ministry made $835 on their Soup Sale and Joyful Noise offering.
If you're
really looking for a treat in worship come on the 3rd Sunday of each
month to hear our little ones sing some cute songs.
Sad to
say, this month the Coordinating Team of Presbyterian women were unable
to meet due to our snow storms. March 18th a Mini Bazaar after worship
[Webmaster Note: Bazaar has since been cancelled].
The Board
of Deacons are keeping themselves busy with visitations to our shut-Ins
and their scheduled meeting is on March 11th.
If you
haven't purchased your 150th Anniversary book as of yet, do so, as there
are only a few left.
Thanks
to Tammy Seidick who is gathering information for updating the church's
web-site
Come one
come all to a Game Night on March 17th.
The personnel
committee is in the process of updating job descriptions and will be
performing employee annual reviews as soon as possible
Sue Hoke
agreed to fill the vacancy on the Board of Deacons.
The Church
Information Form was completed, sent to the Presbytery Office for review
by the Committee on Ministry and will be sent to Presbyterian headquarters
in Louisville, KY.
CHES will
have a pulpit exchange on April 29th. Henry will go to Emmaus and Rev.
Doug Cronce will come to Hokendauqua. The next meeting of CHES is scheduled
for April 15th at Slatington.
A CHES
picnic is being planned and Sally Heffner, Jack and Alice Wall will
represent Hokendauqua on the planning committee.
