Session Minute Hi-Lites
February 21, 2008 meeting

The Session met on February 21, 2008 with nine members present, and Commissioned Lay Pastor, Henry Distler. The Meeting was called to order by Henry at 7:06 P.M. The devotions for the evening were taken from Exodus 17..

Session received Robert McFetridge and Robin Kline on reaffirmation of faith into membership and their daughter Kylie Morgan McFetridge for Baptism on February 24, 2008.

CLERK'S REPORT:

Received a letter of invitation from Lehigh Presbytery to host a Stated Presbytery Meeting. Saturday January 24, 2009 was the first choice and Tuesday, April 28, 2009 was the second choice.

There is a Girl Scout Troop meeting in our church on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M.

A letter was sent to Lehigh County granting permission to use the church from 2008 thru 2012 for voting.

Date change for the Presbyterian Women’s Ice Cream/Basket Social to July 19, 2008.

The annual Report was completed and sent to General Assembly.

The Deacons will cover the cost of the new wipe off board that was purchased for the Sunday school from the David Hause Memorial Fund.

Thank you letters were received from Sixth Street Shelter, Turning Point and Crime Victims Council of the Lehigh Valley.

NOTE: There are year end statements and giving envelopes on the table in the big Sunday school room. Hopefully you will pick them up and save the expense of postage.

March 16 is Palm Sunday - the One Great Hour of Sharing Offering and the children’s fish banks should be returned.

Lehigh Valley Hospital Center is looking for volunteers.

PASTOR'S REPORT:

Distributed copies of his activity report for January 14, to February 17, 2008 in which included:

Time, mileage, CHES pulpit exchange reflections, suggested upcoming
mission projects and schedule of Worship Services.
Request for Baptism of Kylie McFetridge on February 24, 2008
The procedures for cancellation of worship services because of the weather conditions.

CHES updates –February 19 – Pastor’s met at Hokendauqua. April 20 is the Elder Gathering. Keep those evaluation forms coming.

Mar 16. Palm Sunday – Lead worship at Westminster Village
Mar 20 Maundy Thursday – Communion
Mar 21 Good Friday – Service ot tenebrae
Mar. 23 Easter Sunday – Communion
Mar. 30 Deacon Sunday
Henry will be compensated for 39 hours overtime with one week’s vacation.
Henry will be starting an Inquirer’s Class
Next Session Meeting is March 27, 2008.

CORRESPONDENCE:

Outgoing -
A letter to Robert Nickels, Stated Clerk of Lehigh Presbytery, informing him of Richard Haberern’s election as our Alternate Commissioner.
Letter to Lehigh County giving permission to use the church from 2008 thru 2012 for voting.

Incoming –
Thank you letters from Turning Point, Sixth Street Shelter and Crime Victims Shelter of the Lehigh Valley.

MINUTES of January 17 were received as written with one correction and minutes of
Congregational Meeting on February 17, 2008 were approved as received...

FINANCIAL REPORT was received and reviewed. Report was filed for Audit. Per Capita for 2008 is $21.00

MINISTRY REPORTS

Worship and Music -

March 9th is the Blue Grass Sunday. Choir is preparing for Easter. Tammy Seidick is scheduling people to serve as volunteers in the nursery on Sunday mornings.

Youth Ministry -

The young people are scheduled to serve at the food bank on Saturday,
February 23, 2008.

Christian Education -

The young children will sing in March including a Children’s Chat.

Presbyterian Women -

The Ice Cream/Basket Social is scheduled for July 19, 2008. Start thinking about
supporting us with donations of baskets and sacrifices of time to help when and
wherever you can.

Permission was granted to celebrate Communion at the Spring Gathering on April
18, 2008.

Deacons -

Met on February 10th and elected Carol Steigerwalt as their Moderator, Gail Rhinehart, Secretary and Dave Linton, Treasurer.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Communication -

Tammy Seidick will place an Easter Ad in the Morning Call.

Fellowship/Group Life -

Oh! What a wonderful time was had by all who attended Game night on February 16th. Look for more information on a church dinner in April.

Personnel -

No report.

Nominating -

No report.

Property -

During the last snow/ice storm one of the trees near the garage had a large branch break off. The Tree of Life was hired to remove it, at a cost of $350.

The Church roof is leaking an needs repair J. Wilson Enterprises was hired at a cost of $11,200.

The Chimney is in need of repair.

Gifts of the Heart -

Blanket Sunday kick off was February 10th. It was suggested that we have a Roof Fund campaign. In March an offering will be taken for the support of the Lehigh Valley Zoo.

Pastoral Nominating Committee -

At present we have 5 candidates who are being considered to fill the vacancy.

New Business

The Annual Congregational Meeting is scheduled for February 17, 2008. If your
report hasn’t been turned in do so as soon as possible.

The next meeting – March 27, 2008. Henry closed in prayer at 9:00 P.M.
