February 18, 2010 meeting

The Session met on Thursday, February 18, 2010 with nine members present, and Moderator, Rev. Joyce W. Smothers, presiding.

Pastor Joyce opened the meeting with a passage from Genesis 18:1-15 on hospitality followed with unison prayer.


CLERK’S REPORT:

March 15 – Evangelism meeting work group at Kent Newhart’s office 6:45 p.m.

April 3 – Presbytery Easter Vigil at Slatington Presbyterian Church

May 15 – Reading of Session Minutes — Allentown, First

Lehigh Presbytery is featured in the PC (USA) Mission Yearbook for 2010

PASTOR’S REPORT:

Distributed a written report of her activities from December 18, 2009 - January 21, 2010 which included:

  • Distributed a written report of her activities:
  • Preached and led worship services
  • Moderated the Annual Congregational Meeting – January 24, 2010.
  • Moderated a meeting regarding Camp Brainerd fund-raising.
  • Officiated at the funeral service for Margaret “Honey” Fink on January 29.
  • Visited and served communion to the shut-ins, hospital patients and those
    recovering at home.
  • Attended Choir rehearsals.
  • Is teaching a Bible Study on Genesis through the end of March.
  • The One Great Hour of Sharing Offering will be taken on March 28.
  • Meets with Clerk of Session and Communicants class.
  • Attended Presbytery Meeting on January 23 at Pottsville.
  • March 21 Mission speaker from Westminster Village is scheduled.
  • A CHES Pulpit exchange is scheduled for April 11, 2010.
  • Our congregation and choir are invited to join in an Ecumenical Good Friday
  • Service at Salem UCC, Catasauqua, at noon.
  • Rev. Steve Emick is serving as our Liaison to C.O.M. Committee of Lehigh
    Presbytery.
  • Presbytery Council will be holding its meetings in local churches throughout
    2010.

MINUTES of January 21, 2010 and The Annual Congregational Meeting of January 24, 2010 were approved with corrections.


MINISTRY REPORTS:

Worship and Music -

March 7 – Girl Scout Sunday

May 23 – Pentecost/Confirmation

We hope Jordan Spring Blue Grass Band will join us for worship on May 16.

Christian Education -

The soup sale on Super Bowl Sunday was a success.

Youth Ministry -

The Hokendauqua and Catasauqua youth groups enjoyed a movie on January 24th , entitled, “To Save A Life,” on a trip to Center Valley theaters.

Nursery School -

The school year will end the 2nd week in May.


COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Communication -

There are some anniversary books still for sale at eighteen dollars per copy. See Pastor Joyce or Kathy Jernegan.

Sign up sheets scheduling photos for the Pictorial Directory will be on the bulletin board. Melody Faisetty volunteered to help with the scheduling.

Thanks to Tammy Seidick for the article she wrote for the Presbytery Messenger.

Fellowship and Group Life -

There will be a Sunday Morning Breakfast. Details will follow.

Nominating -

Two Deacons are needed for the Class of 2012.

Property -

A new Ricoh copy machine has been ordered from Edward’s Business Machines.

The canopy over the door at the back of the church needs repairs. The roof on the Sunday School wing needs to be replaced.

The Williams room needs to be tidied so that space is available for communion preparation.

Request was made to cut a hole in the wall in front of the Clavinova so that the sound can be projected properly.

Gifts of the Heart -

March 28 Palm Sunday – One Great Hour of Sharing Offering will be taken.

Old Business -

An Evangelism Task Group will be formed with the assistance of Kent
Newhart, Joyce Wheeler and Eileen Tremblay.

New Business -

It was suggested that the back lot be paved for parking. It was unanimously agreed it would be too expensive and our church home needs upgrading and repairs more urgently.

There have been requests that the church bell be rung more often.

No further business the meeting was adjourned with a unison prayer led by Pastor Joyce at 8:50 P.M.
