Session
April 15, 2010 meeting

The Session met on Thursday, April 15, 2010 in the social room of the church. A quorum was present. Pastor Joyce, who moderated, opened the meeting with devotions taken from I Corinthians 1:26-31. Pastor Joyce introduced Sharon and Ron Wallace, Megan Hilbert, and Kevin Justice who were seeking to be received as members of this church.


CLERK’S REPORT:

May 15 – Reading of Session Minutes-Allentown, First/ Patriotic Tea

May 18 – Primary Election Day (church is polling place)

May 20 – Rev. Stephen Emick will meet with Session (Annual visit of Presbytery’s Committee on Ministry).

Doug Sammak was re-installed as an Elder on April 18th.

Joyce Wheeler was elected as our 2nd Commissioner to Lehigh Presbytery.


CORRESPONDENCE:

Lehigh Presbytery prayer requests:

  • Sally Sullivan – Pottsville Church
  • Corrie Miller –Lehighton Presbyterian – victim of a terrible fire and lost all of her belongings
  • Ray White – Rev. Steve Shussett’s father-in-law
  • Patty Colson – wife of Rev. Charles Colson
  • Istvan Tonk and Erdels Reformatus from Cluj, Romania (The Presbytery’s
    Church to Church Partnership).
  • May Prayer requests for churches:
    Easton Olivet, Mt. Bethel/Portland and Pottsville

June 20-22 Synod Summer Conference at Penn State Conference Center.

Received a request to host a Presbytery Meeting in 2011. Session voted to offer to host it on September 27, 2011.


PASTOR’S REPORT:

Distributed a written report of her activities from March 19, 2010 – April 15, 2010 which included:

  • Preached and led worship services
  • Attended the CHES Meeting on April 13th.
  • Visited and served communion to all the shut-ins, hospital patients and those
    recovering at home.
  • Attends Choir rehearsals.
  • Is presently completing a Bible Study on Genesis
  • Meets with Clerk of Session, Evangelism Group and Communicants class.
  • Preached in Catasauqua for the CHES Pulpit exchange.
  • Hosted and participated with Cheyenne Dougherty in the Presbytery’s Easter Vigil.
  • Officiated at the funeral of Ellwood R.H. Quigg.
  • Met with new member inquirers- Ron and Sharon Wallace, Kevin Justice and
    Megan Hilbert.
  • Requested Session to think about doing a Mission Study.
  • Wedding request for Lori Ann Tomolaitis and David Fehnel on July 10, 2010 was approved.
  • The Mission project for the comfirmands is to help with the Whitehall Food Bank.
  • NOTE: Pastor Joyce is in the Office Tuesday thru Friday 9:00A.M. to 1:00P.M. for anyone who wishes to meet with her.

MINUTES of March 18, 2010 were approved with corrections.


FINANCIAL REPORT:

Received Yr. to Date Balance Sheet, Financial Report, YTD Budget vs. Actual,
Profit and Loss, Budget vs. Actual Reports for March 2010. Reports were
reviewed and filed for Audit.

There will be a financial weekly tally sheet inserted in the Sunday bulletins.


MINISTRY REPORTS:

Worship and Music -

The Choir’s last Sunday will be June 13th before the summer break.

The Choir raised funds by selling Easter candy again this year thanks to the coordinating efforts of Sally Heffner.

Do you hear the church bell on a Sunday morning? Thanks to Carl Moran.

Christian Education -

A bus trip to “Sight and Sound” is being considered.

Debbie Snyder will chair Vacation Bible School from August 2 through 6.

Presbyterian Women -

The Mission Project is to fill Health Kits.

Lehigh PW met at College Hill Church, Easton.

The Synod Gathering (open to all women) is at Waynesburg College July 17-19.

Don’t forget our Patriotic Tea May 15th.

Nursery School -

Their school year will end May 14th.


COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Communication -

There are some Anniversary books still for sale @ $28 each.

Fellowship and Group Life -

Game night will be scheduled soon.
There may be a church picnic this summer.

Nominating -

Emily Hoke was elected as a Deacon.

Property -

A new Ricoh copier has arrived.

A broken stained glass window will be repaired in the fall.

Request to pave the grassy area behind the church was discussed and contacts will be made to provide an estimate of what it would cost.

Termite inspection has been completed.

Gifts of the Heart -

May 23rd Pentecost Offering

Old Business -

Joyce Wheeler will chair the Evangelism Group.

The meeting was adjourned with a unison prayer led by Pastor Joyce at 9:20 P.M.
