Session
August 20, 2009 meeting

The Session met on Thursday, August 20, 2009 with eight members present and Moderator, Rev. Joyce W. Smothers in the social room of the church. A quorum was present.

Pastor Joyce opened the meeting and Barbara Quigg, Clerk, started the meeting with an exercise that pertained to where responsibilities lie. Is it Pastor, Session, Deacons, Congregation or Presbytery? Pastor Joyce gave a small devotion for Church Officers followed with prayer.

CLERK’S REPORT:

Prayer requests from Lehigh Presbytery:

• Rich and Shirley Fritz for the birth of their granddaughter Abigail Lynn on June 26th.
• Giffel family for their father Terry and their stepmother Denise.
• Maria Showalter wife of James DiEgidio Gen. Presbyter in Cincinnati Presbytery
• Susan Reichenberg & her husband Monte. She was the former Pastor at Pottsville.
• Toni Brooks from Reading, Washington.
• Debbie Drake wife of Rev. Mike Drake of Allentown First.

Received a request for reinstatement of membership and a baptism for Ashley Geiger.

Stated Presbytery Meeting is on September 22, 2009 at Middle Smithfield.

CORRESPONDENCE:

Guide One Insurance surveyed our church and found minor things that were not up to code.

Corrections and repairs will be made.

PASTOR’S REPORT:

Distributed a written report of her activities from June 19-August 20, 2009 which included:

• Preached and led worship services
  
  
• Participated in VBS and lead a Bible Study
  
  
• Performed three Baptisms
  Jonah William Hartman – July 26, 2009
  Dahlia Mae Janis – August 2, 2009
  Madison Lynn Fehnel will be baptized August 23, 2009
  
  
• Met with parents of Landon Jurgen Brungard to prepare for Baptism on
  September 29, 2009.
  
  
• Received a request from Ashley Geiger to be reinstated as a member and have her baby baptized on September 20, 2009.
  
  
• Participated in the installation service for Jeffrey Colarossi at Pottsville.
  
  
• Attended the August meeting of CHES Pastors.
  
  
• Visited and served communion to 16 shut-ins along with Carol Steigerwalt and
  Ruth Thomas.
  
  
• Made two hospital visits to Matt Faisetty and Barbara Johns.
  
  
• Attended the Presbytery Meeting At Westminster Village in June.
  
  
• Conducted two counseling sessions.
  
  
• Requested study leave for Oct. 26 –30, 2009 and one day vacation Tuesday,
  September 8, 2009.

NOTE: Pastor Joyce is in the Office Tuesday thru Friday 9:00A.M. to 1:00P.M, for anyone who wishes to meet with her.

MINUTES of June 18, June 28 and July 8, 2009 were approved as received.

FINANCIAL REPORT Received Yr. to Date Balance Sheet, Financial Report, YTD Budget vs. Actual, Profit and Loss, Budget vs. Actual Reports for June and July. Reports were reviewed and filed for Audit.

MINISTRY REPORTS:

Worship and Music -

Choir begins the Wednesday after Labor Day.

Pastor Joyce and the choir will lead a worship service at Westminster Village
October 18, 2009.

Children’s Chat will be on the 3rd Sunday of the month.

Christian Education -

VBS was very successful with 31 children attending. Thanks to Debbie Snyder’s
great planning.

Pastor Joyce opened and closed VBS with prayer.

Youth Ministry -

Joyce Smothers and Douglas Cronce are making plans for our Youth Group
to join the Catasauqua Youth Group.

Presbyterian Women -

The Churchwide Gathering in Louisville, Ky. is July 11-15, 2009.

Was attended by 5 women from Lehigh Presbytery

Lehigh Presbyteries Presbyterian Women will gather at Reading Pennside on
October 17, 2009... All women are invited.

Deacons -

No report.

Turning Point -

Keep saving those old cell phones and ink cartridges.

Nursery School -

Sept. 4, 2009 is an open house. Classes will begin the day after Labor Day. There
are openings for more 3 year olds.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Communication -

Tammy will update the Web Site for worship service time changes.

Fellowship and Group Life -

Watch the bulletin and newsletter for upcoming events.

Personnel -

Annual Reviews will be completed before year end.

Nominating -

Please cooperate with the committee if you are called to serve as a church officer.

Property -

The cracks in the front stairwell have been repaired.
The four old pulpit chairs are being reupholstered.
The new furnace is being installed.
The sound system is in good working condition.
Plans are being made to remodel the two bathrooms.

Gifts of the Heart -

Peacemaking Offering will be received October 4, 2009.

Old Business -

The church directory is on the table in the vestibule, please stop by and check
your name, address phone No, etc. and make corrections and/or changes.

New Business -

The stated meeting of Presbytery will be at Middle Smithfield on September 22, 2009.

The next meeting – September 17, 2009, at 7:00 P.M.

No further business the meeting was adjourned with prayer offered by Pastor Joyce at 9:05P.M.
