Session
September 17, 2009 meeting

The Session met on Thursday, September 17, 2009 with seven members present and Moderator, Rev. Joyce W. Smothers in the social room of the church. A quorum was present. Pastor Joyce opened the meeting with prayer, read a passage of scripture from First Thessalonians, played a game with the Elders called Prayerful Person’s Bingo, joined the Elders in a prayer and then prayed to officially open the meeting.


CLERK’S REPORT:

Prayer requests from Lehigh Presbytery: will be in the bulletin and newsletter as we receive them.

  • Rev. Ray Brubaker for heart surgery
  • For Ministers of the Word and Sacrament
  • Rev. Dianne Kareha on the death of her mother

Received and signed an updated contract for Girl Scout Troop #6011.

Attended Stated Presbytery Meeting is on September 22, 2009 at Middle Smithfield.

Received a request from Sarah McClellan to transfer from Asbury Methodist to our church.

Received several requests to reprint our Anniversary book. If interested in purchasing this book contact B. Quigg or Pastor Joyce Smothers.

Lehigh Presbytery requested a copy of our Vision Statement. You can find it on the front cover of our bulletins.


CORRESPONDENCE:

Received an updated list of available Supply Pastors.

Received an upcoming Events and Items of Interest flyer from Lehigh Presbytery.

Speakers coming to Lehigh Presbytery September 16 are Vera White and Mark Koenig on September 17 – 19, 2009.


PASTOR’S REPORT:

Distributed a written report of her activities from June 19-August 20, 2009 which included:

  • Preached and led worship services

  • Performed the Baptism of:
    Madison Lynn Fehnel on August 23, 2009

  • Request for Baptism:
    Landon Jurgen Brungard on September 20, 2009
    Logan Kutz Rusnock on October 11, 2009

  • Attended the September 13, meeting of CHES Pastors.

  • Visited the shut-ins, hospital patients, and those recovering at home.

  • Attended the Presbytery Meeting at Middle Smithfield.

  • Pastor’s study leave is planned for Oct. 26 –30, 2009.

  • Led a Bible Study series on the Book of Ruth and is planning a similar series on Genesis.

  • Met with Personnel Committee, Clerk of Session. Worship Committee and
    Christian Education Committee.

  • Will attend the Stated Meeting of Presbytery at Middle Smithfield on September 22, 2009.

  • New Members Class will begin September 23, 2009.

  • Confirmation Class will begin October 25, 2009.

NOTE: Pastor Joyce is in the Pastor’s Office Tuesday thru Friday 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M, for anyone who wishes to meet with her.


MINUTES
of August 20, 2009 were approved with one correction.


FINANCIAL REPORT
Received Yr. to Date Balance Sheet, Financial Report, YTD Budget vs. Actual, Profit and Loss, Budget vs. Actual Reports for August. Reports were reviewed and filed for Audit.


MINISTRY REPORTS:

Worship and Music -

Pastor Joyce and the choir will lead a worship service at Westminster Village
October 18, 2009 at 2:30 p.m.

Christian Education -

September 20, 2009 - Trip to the Lehigh Valley Zoo.

Youth Ministry -

October 11, 2009 – Bowling at Hampton Lanes at 6:15 P.M. with the Catasauqua
Presbyterian Church youth.

Presbyterian Women -

Lehigh Presbyteries Presbyterian Women will gather at Reading (Pennside) on
October 17, 2009. All women are invited.

Don’t forget to get your tickets for the Basket Social/Bake Sale on October 16 &
17, 2009 from any member of the PW Association.

Deacons -

A meeting is scheduled for September 20, 2009.

Turning Point -

Keep saving those old cell phones and ink cartridges and bringing them to church.

Nursery School -

Check it out! Tammy Seidick did a great job, including the Nursery School on the Web Site.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Communication -

Mary Ann Ramey will get a quote on the cost of reprinting our Anniversary Book.

Fellowship and Group Life -

The breakfast on September 13, 2009 was a success.
Get your tickets now for the Sauerkraut Dinner on October 31, 2009!

Personnel -

Annual Reviews are completed and will be reported to Session in October.

Pastor Joyce Smothers is in the process of updating her job description for session approval.

Nominating -

Please prayerfully consider your call, if you are called to serve as a church officer.

A slate of officer nominees will be presented to Session in October.

Property -

The cracks in the front stairwell have been repaired and painted.
The four old pulpit chairs have been reupholstered and returned.
The new furnace has been installed.
The emergency lights will be inspected and repaired.
The two bathrooms will be remodeled.
The light above the front door needs to be fixed.
The tree near the garage needs to be trimmed.

Gifts of the Heart -

Peacemaking Offering will be received October.4, 2009.
Christmas Joy Offering will be received in December.

New Business -

No report.

The next meeting – October 15, 2009, at 7:00 P.M.

No further business the meeting was adjourned with prayer offered by Pastor Joyce at 8:30 P.M.
